Marty's Pantry is an unpretentious, peoples café close to Main Street Carrick-on-Suir. The meals are comforting and as old fashioned as milking stools and trouser belts made from bailing twine. Food that once sustained farmers and their labourers, are doled out each day in huge portions, to towns-people, business folk and those older stalwarts of the community, retired men, honourably discharged from a lifetime of farming. People come to eat in the communal conviviality of big plates with great heaps of quality meat and exquisitely steaming, buttered up spuds. They also do beautiful cakes and lasagne's. Some very happy moments were spent in years gone by, buying bags of Marty's cheese cake buns and fruit scones and sharing them over mugs of strong tea with folk who are now no longer here. They could do better on the coffee. It's presented in a Costa style glass, which is rather timid, a little pompous and very 1997. Altogether a great place to eat and to catch up on births, deaths and marriages.

May not be a place that will catch your eye easily unless you are walking due to its location, but it is a nice cafe with a wide variety of meals. Although I only stopped off for a coffee and pastry, the coffee was very good and the apple tstt was a large slice. Service is prompt and friendly and it looks like it has the support of the local community.

I’ve been to many places around the world, and I have to say I have never found somewhere like Marty’s pantry. From home cooked ham, to coleslaw made from scratch to relish that Marty makes himself, there’s nowhere I’ve been to that does everything from scratch. Lots of homemade jams, chutneys and relishes to buy too. A selection of delicious desserts, homemade breads and scones too. Lovely, welcoming staff, the chef Laura is not only a great cook but a friendly face too. Marty himself is even there to say hi everyday! Home cooked food is hard to come by these days and if that’s what you’re looking for, take a visit to Marty’s.

Had a lovely mini breakfast in here with family. Thursday morning, got seating ok. Would say if it was busy I would have been a little anxious as tablets are very close together. Staff friendly and accommodating. Food hot and delicious. Everything looked lovely. Definitely had food envy of other family members choices, but all very good and plenty.

There’s ham and there’s ham from Marty’s Pantry. If you’re going walking in the Comeraghs call in and get a ham roll, you won’t regret it.
